DETROIT, Mich. â Emergency dredging of St. Joseph Harbor will begin in early June.
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers says the emergency dredging will expedite the process to restore critical navigation.
During this yearâs annual channel survey, the Corp of Engineers says they identified a shoal restricting the channel depth.
According to the Corp of Engineers, the restriction was as little as 13 feet below low water datum in some areas, which effectively closed the inner harbor to commercial navigation.

The Philippines has taken the gloves off in its dispute with Beijing over the South China Sea, with its top diplomat dropping the F-bomb as he demanded the withdrawal of Chinese vessels near the Scarborough Shoal.
Foreign Secretary Teodoro Locsin Jnr took to Twitter, calling China an ugly oaf and demanding it get the f out of Philippine maritime waters. His colourful language followed reports that Chinese coastguard ships had harassed their Philippine counterparts in the vicinity of the shoal, which is claimed by both countries.

ELIZABETHTON â Sycamore Shoals State Park has several events scheduled for March as spring returns to the historic location.
Along with several events at the park, there are guided tours planned for the two historic homes located outside the main campus at 1651 W. Elk Ave.
Guided tours of Sabine Hill, the Federalist-style home built by Mary Patton Taylor, widow of Brig. Gen. Nathaniel Taylor, in the days immediately after the War of 1812, at 2328 W. G St. are scheduled for several days in March. Tours will be held on March 6, 13, 20 and 27. All tours start at 11 a.m.
The guide for the tours is seasonal Interpretive Ranger Laura Ellis. The site has been described as one of the finest examples of Federalist architecture in Tennessee. During the tour, visitors will have the opportunity to enjoy the colorful and architecturally detailed interior, while learning about the historically prominent Taylor family.
